The idea to organize a festival of French theatre was born in 2014 and in March 2015 the first edition of the festival Sněz tu žábu (Eat the Frog / Mange ta grenouille) took place, which has since then offered a unique opportunity to present the most interesting tendencies of contemporary Francophone theatre in the Czech Republic and at the same time creates a space for meetings and interactions between Czech and French culture.
Sněz tu žábu, z. ú., regularly facilitates contacts between Czech theatres and French authors, selects and recommends French plays for translation, actively participates in discussions and conferences in both countries or joins text selection committees in France.
The main idea of the Sněz tu žábu festival and other activities was to build a bridge between the Czech and French theatre environments, that is why we created a second festival in Arcueil – next to Paris. This other festival is dedicated to presentation of Czech theatre in France and called Na skok do Prahy (Jump to Prague / Fais un saut à Prague).
We collaborated with important cultural institutions (in the Czech Republic it is mainly the French Institute in Prague, the Institute of Arts – Theatre Institute, the Dilia agency, the Faculty of Arts of Charles University or the Creative Europe office, in France the Anis Gras cultural space, the Czech Centre in Paris, the SACD agency, the Eurodram international organisation, Théâtre Ouvert, Théâtre Studio-Vitry theatre or the city of Arcueil) and our activities are reflected in concrete joint projects in the Czech Republic and France. The festival activities were co-funded by Municipality of the Capital City of Prague and Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The activities of the Sněz tu žábu festival were terminated in 2024.
